Caribbean Sea: Join Dr. Carter on a journey from the Great Lakes to the Caribbean.

Dive into Robert Carter’s Marine biology research and learn interesting details from his dissertation on ‘Cnidarian Fluorescent Proteins. While in Miami, Dr. Carter studied the genetics of pigmentation in corals and other invertebrates, designed and built an aquaculture facility for Caribbean corals, performed well over 500 SCUBA dives, many of them at night, and licensed a spin-off product of his research (a patent-pending fluorescent protein) to a biotech company.

Explore Freshwater and Saltwater Sciences!

Explore marine and freshwater sciences and get up close with the creatures in the Reiman Aquarium! Dr. Carter will answer your questions about the science of SCUBA, get a close look into the anatomy of fish and other sea creatures as you explore the steps to take care of underwater habitats.

Do you have what it takes to become a marine biologist? Ask Dr. Robert Carter, Ph.D. Marine biologist to gain firsthand knowledge and experience with a research expert in the field.

Seahorses, Beautiful Seahorses!  Oh My!

The theme behind the aquarium is inspired by the yearly journey of Discovery World's flagship, the S/V Denis Sullivan from Lake Michigan to the Gulf of Mexico. The wave shape along the wall was meant to mimic the idea of being underwater as you walk through the aquarium. This journey incorporates both fresh and salt water environments and a wide variety of marine life, from jellyfish to muskies. The Aquarium also hosts the Underwater Labs, a submarine-styled exhibit meant to give a more in-depth education on what it takes to live underwater; for both humans and fish.

Experience Touch Tank Feeding on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2019 at 11:00 a.m.

During this brief presentation and feeding, you’ll learn about the Lake Sturgeon’s habitat and food source, along with some fun facts about the Atlantic and Cortez stingrays. Learn a little about Caribbean species and feeding practices in the Reiman Aquarium.

Dr. Carter will teach museum visitors about Stingrays, Lake Sturgeon, Slipper Lobster, and Horseshoe Crabs, at Discovery World’s Reiman Aquarium Touch Tanks.
